Media Luna Roatán is entering a new era. On November 5, 2025, the HM Resorts group announced a strategic alliance with Meliá Hotels International, the globally recognized Spanish chain. The result: the former Media Luna Resort & Spa reopens under the Sol by Meliá Roatán banner starting in December 2025 — the very first Meliá hotel in Honduras.

This is great news for the island. A major international brand betting on Roatán means more investment, more jobs and more confidence in the tourism potential of our little corner of the Caribbean.

The Mesoamerican reef right off your room

If Media Luna built its reputation on one thing, it’s snorkeling and diving. The resort sits on the east coast, the quieter and wilder side of the island, where the second largest coral reef in the world laps right up to the shore.

For basic snorkeling you don’t need a boat or a paid excursion: you put your fins on at the beach and swim over living coral, tropical fish and — if you’re lucky — rays and turtles. It’s one of the best shore-accessible snorkeling spots on Roatán.

To go deeper, the on-site dive center — Turquoise Divers, the same respected team as at Turquoise Bay Dive & Beach Resort — runs the scuba trips. All-inclusive: what’s included, what’s extra

Media Luna’s all-inclusive plan is changing under the new Sol by Meliá management. Depending on the package, your accommodation, meals and some drinks are included. Since everything has just been renovated, I’ll confirm the exact plan when you book.

How to get here from Canada

The resort is reachable on flights to Roatán during the winter season (December to April). Starting December 12, 2026, Air Canada launches its very first direct flight to the island — a historic first. Sunwing and WestJet continue to operate from Canada by season.
