Anthony's Key Resort Roatán | Prices, Diving & an Honest Review
Anthony's Key Resort has been Roatán's diving institution since 1970: wooden waterfront bungalows, the Mesoamerican reef at your doorstep, a marine sciences institute and the dolphins of Bailey's Key. A diver's choice — and I'll tell you straight who it suits.

Anthony’s Key Resort Roatán: a diving institution since 1970
Ask a diver where to stay in Roatán and Anthony’s Key Resort is almost always the first name out. Owned and run by the Galindo family since 1970, in Sandy Bay on the island’s north-west coast, it is one of the oldest dive resorts in the Caribbean — and it has kept its soul.
No concrete towers, no marble lobby. Wooden waterfront bungalows that capture the essence of the Caribbean, plus more secluded hillside retreats for quiet and privacy. 57 rooms, 1 restaurant, 3 bars, set directly on the edge of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef — the second largest in the world.
⚠️ Be honest with yourself before booking. Anthony’s Key is not a beach all-inclusive like Henry Morgan or Mayan Princess in West Bay. You don’t come here for a ribbon of white sand outside your door. You come for the diving, the sea and the nature. If that’s what you want, nothing on the island beats it.
What Anthony’s Key Resort actually costs in Canadian dollars
This is the question everyone asks and almost no site answers clearly. The prices on this page are real fares pulled from our booking system, in Canadian dollars per person, taxes and FICAV contribution included, based on double occupancy.
You can filter by departure city (Montréal or Québec City), by length of stay (1 or 2 weeks) and sort by price or departure date. What you see is what is genuinely available — not a teaser rate.
The diving: what people really come for
The reef is minutes away by boat, not an hour by road. The fleet of dive boats is moored right at the resort dock, and the Scuba School is on site.
This is a resort built by and for divers: rinse tanks, lockers, gear setup, boat schedules, training — the logistics have been refined for over fifty years. And it is a major training centre: you can go all the way to PADI instructor. For non-diving companions, snorkelling starts straight off the docks.
Want to dive or snorkel in French or English, with a Québécois divemaster who knows every site? That’s exactly what I do: see all my guided excursions →.
The Bailey’s Key dolphins and the marine sciences institute
This is what makes the place unique in the Caribbean. The resort is home to the Roatán Institute for Marine Sciences (RIMS) and the Roatán Museum, where you can take part in educational programs and interactive activities at Bailey’s Key — including the dolphin encounters it has been known for over decades.
Exact activities vary by season and availability. I check what is genuinely running during your specific dates before you book, rather than letting you find out on arrival.
What’s included — and what isn’t
This is where travellers get caught out, so let’s be precise. The package sold from Canada is full board, not a drinks-included all-inclusive:
Included:
- 🍽️ Three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner
- ☕ Juice, milk and house coffee — at breakfast only
- 🚐 Free round-trip airport transfers (rare in Roatán, and a real advantage)
- 🎉 Island Fiesta evening at Anthony’s Key
- 🏝️ Full-day beach trip to Maya Key
- 🛶 Non-motorised watersports: kayaks and paddleboards
- 🏊 Access to the freshwater pool
- 📶 Free Wi-Fi in rooms and common areas
What’s extra — and what I coordinate for you:
- 🤿 Scuba dive packages and PADI training
- 🐠 Guided snorkelling trips to the best reef spots
- 🏝️ Island excursions (Pigeon Cay, brewery tour, ziplines)
- 📸 Underwater photos and video of your stay
I negotiate the complete package at the best price.
The rooms: what to honestly expect
Units are wooden bungalows, many on the waterfront, others on the hillside for privacy. Higher categories such as the Key Premium Suite run about 400 sq ft with a king bed, natural stone countertops and Honduran hardwood furnishings.
This is the charm of a historic tropical lodge, not the standardised comfort of an international chain. Regulars love it for exactly that; travellers expecting a modern 5★ are sometimes disappointed. Tell me what you’re after and I’ll tell you straight whether Anthony’s Key is right for you — or whether a West Bay resort would suit you better. I have no interest in selling you the wrong hotel: I live here, and I’ll run into you on the island.
Sandy Bay: quiet, with everything close by
Sandy Bay is markedly quieter than West Bay. The resort sits 9 km from RTB airport, and here’s what surrounds it:
| Point of interest | Distance |
|---|---|
| Half Moon Bay Beach | 3.1 km |
| Downtown Roatán (Coxen Hole) | 3.8 km |
| RTB International Airport | 4.8 km |
| West Bay Beach | 6.1 km |
| Marbella Beach | 9.4 km |
| Fantasy Island Beach | 14.9 km |
On site or steps away: the Scuba School, Seaside Gifts & Photos, Photo Roatan, the snack shop and the dive shop. The village of West End — restaurants, bars, nightlife — is a few minutes by taxi.
Getting there from Canada
Roatán has direct flights during the winter season (December to April). From December 12, 2026, Air Canada launches its very first direct flight to the island. Sunwing and WestJet also operate from Canada seasonally.
Once at RTB, your transfer to Anthony’s Key is included — nothing to arrange.
